Calf Heath to Wightwick (10 miles, 3 locks)

What a week!
We, as members of the online forum 'Canal World Forum', assembled along with around 50 other members at Calf Heath for a 'wedding banter' (get together following wedding earlier in the year and excuse for a good knees up!) over the past few days.
I haven't posted photos because of permissions and confidentiality, but those who know us, can view some on Facebook along with 'banter cam' which recorded a parade of the forum members looking fabulous!
We had arrived earlier in the week and explored on bikes and generally got to know the area.  Gradually our forum friends arrived and each day we 'bantered' either in the marina bar or on the towpath and had a cracking good time!
Thank you for all those who made Jan and Dave's day special and hopefully we can attend the next banter at Lapworth later in the year.
Setting off on Tuesday morning, after much debate over the past week over choice of route, we decided to continue on the Staffordshire and Worcester Canal down to the newly restored Droitwich Canal.  We passed through Coven and the above super narrow stretch, luckily not meeting anyone coming the other way.
We turned onto the Shropshire Union to get some much needed water, leaving the butty moored on the mainline.  The winding hole, where we turned around, took us about 2 miles further up the canal, so our brief visit to the Shroppie lasted most of the morning!
Returning to the 'Staffs', a fallen tree caused us to get grounded as Richard steered around it, but luckily fellow banterers on the same journey, came to our rescue and pulled us backward, so we could continue.

We had moored above the lock in  Compton and walked into the village to get my niece a birthday card and get some food.
Look who came past us this morning! I made so much noise that it sprinted past and disappeared as quick as it appeared.

Wightwick was quiet and very pretty with gardens down to the water, but the canal was alive with boats passing through.
Our first thunder and hail storm since being out and about!  In the nick of time, we had moored up for the day, before getting some jobs one on the boat.
Our aim at the moment is to perfect our techniques with the butty going downhill through locks and we have been having a go at long lining (towing on a long rope without cleaning up other boats as the butty goes past!)  It will be better tomorrow...
