Day 4 ~ 29 miles and 4 locks (8 to us!)

Day 4 of our endurance race to Rickkmansworth for their festival in 2 weeks time...

Peaceful mooring before Springwood Haven ~ 6am start again!

Approaching Nuneaton

This part of Nuneaton by the wharf is always congested and with a blind bridgehole to follow!

Hawkesbury Junction visitor moorings on the left with the waterpoint

Footbridge over ~ we turn left here in a U.  For this manoeuvre, I need to push the tiller right over (to the left) until Richard indicates enough, then the opposite lock to complete the turn.

Safely round! My steering pushes the stern of the motor around the bend and helps, so long as I follow his instructions and don't get distracted!

Waiting for a boat to exit the 'stop lock' (only a small level difference, where boats would have to pay to join the new canal)

Leaving the lock, we squeeze in between the boats going around the bend

Horses at Ansty village

Quiet for a change, going around this usually congested bend

In the middle of nowhere canal

Stretton Stop ~ former toll house, now a busy workyard with a footbridge which has to be moved and then put back as the boat passes through

Newbold on the outskirts of Rugby

Approaching Rugby ~ going over the viaduct over the road

Approaching Hillmorton Locks ~ only one of each pair of the 3 locks was operational, but it was fine, as a friend ours helped by running on ahead and opening the gates so that we could go straight in

Pirates outside the cafe

Onward towards Braunston

Last night's mooring ~ we didn't want to risk not being able to moor in Braunston at 5pm because it would be very congested.  So we will hit it today, now we have had a lie in.....

Journey remaining ~ 76 miles and 82 locks
